Recreation Director Janice Grasso told the council during a public hearing that the borough has applied to the New Jersey Green Acres Program to repave Wolcott Park, renovate two tennis courts, add four upgraded pickleball courts plus two additional pickleball courts, and add a family restroom. Grasso said current equipment and storage are limited — "there is currently a shed that sits in a parking space for now" — and the application seeks funding and a municipal match to complete the work.
Lisa Vasquez, a resident active on local recreation panels, urged the council to improve local sports opportunities for Eatontown children so they need not travel to neighboring towns. Councilmembers asked about storage, timeline and the potential to add youth programming (pickleball/tennis). Councilmember Candace M. Faust said the improvements are important for liability reasons and Councilmember Carl Lawson and others praised Grasso for pursuing the grant. The borough will await Green Acres' completeness review and award determination; the council authorized submission of the application at the Jan. 14 meeting.
