The Riviera ISD Board of Trustees approved the purchase of professional development and sensory equipment from Fun & Function for $48,000 using ECSE grant funds. Jolynn Moreno, staff member, and Mrs. Kalinec presented the proposal, and Teresa May, committee member, moved approval. The motion was seconded and passed 6-0.
Ms. Moreno told the board, "The district was awarded $73,000 under the grant titled 'Empowering Early Childhood Special Education Educators to Improve Student Outcomes,' which must be used for professional development." The $48,000 contract will cover professional development services and sensory-room equipment and supplies at no additional cost; the sensory room will be housed in the elementary library and made available to students as needed. Grant funds must be fully expended by March, and administration said it is exploring additional allowable purchases to use the remaining balance.
