Ms. Dobson, superintendent, and Dr. White explained two principal changes: clarifying that students may be subject to up to three drug tests per year, and allowing students who record a second positive test to resume extracurricular activities and driving privileges after 30 calendar days if a parent obtains a doctor-administered drug test showing negative results.
Ms. Dobson described the rationale, noting measurable test levels and behavioral responses: "test results include measurable levels (nanograms), which often show a significant decrease on a second test, indicating the student has stopped or reduced use and is complying with the intervention program." The proposed revisions were not adopted because no board member made a motion to change the policy during the meeting; the existing disciplinary timeline (a 12-week suspension for a second positive) remained in effect.
