Council confirms two library trustees; several nominations fail, one tabled

Mayor Roger Agpawa brought forward a slate of municipal library trustee appointments during the March 4 council meeting and asked the clerk to call the names for confirmation. Patricia Hogan and Glenda Tempton were each approved by unanimous roll-call votes.

Leslie Trimuel, the city clerk, read the nominations and recorded the votes. The minutes show Patricia Hogan and Glenda Tempton each passed on 4–0 roll-call votes. Several subsequent nominations failed: Aisha Huisar (recorded roll call: 1 Yes, 3 No), Latisha Franklin (0 Yes, 3 No, 1 Abstain), Brenda Kay Boykins‑Montgomery (0 Yes, 3 No, 1 Abstain), and Annie Reed (recorded as 1 Yes, 2 No, 1 Abstain). The council voted 4–0 to table Gwendolyn Smith’s appointment at the mayor’s request so he can revisit the matter.

Mayor Agpawa said some current trustees were carried over from the previous administration and that the appointments were being brought forward "so they can be properly confirmed as required." He told council he would return to the issue soon because the library board is currently short staffed and "cannot operate with two members down." The council did not change the mayor’s request to table Ms. Smith.

The meeting minutes contain slightly different spellings for one nominee (the clerk read "Glenda Timpton" after earlier printing of "Glenda Tempton"); that inconsistency appears in the official roll-call lines and is noted for the record. The council did not take votes identifying how individual members cast each recorded yes/no/abstain count beyond the tallies printed in the minutes.
