Town Inspector Randall Jaggie told council he has identified problem properties within Lumberport and recommended adopting updated code paperwork and property-maintenance materials. He said Region 6 can help with grant writing and the town should pursue DEP grant assistance for boarding up or demolition when utilities present public hazards.
Council voted to adopt the Region 6 Hazard Plan, which staff said is required for certain funding opportunities, and approved moving forward with condemnation procedures where structures are unsafe. Attorney Trey Simmerman noted grant and county participation may be necessary to fund remediation and that asbestos checks must be completed prior to demolition.
