Raymondville ISD board: budget prevents buying three‑point seat belts; directs SB 546 report to TEA

At its May 12 meeting the Raymondville ISD Board determined the district cannot afford to buy school buses with three‑point seat belts now and voted 6–0 to record that determination and submit the required SB 546 inventory and cost report to the Texas Education Agency.
The Raymondville Independent School District Board of Trustees voted May 12 that, given current budget constraints, the district will not purchase buses equipped with three‑point seat belts at this time and will retain and submit the required fleet inventory and estimated compliance costs to the Texas Education Agency.
"I move that the Board of Trustees determine that the district’s current budget does not permit the district to purchase buses equipped with three‑point seat belts at this time, and that the district present and retain the required fleet inventory and estimated compliance cost information in the board agenda and minutes and submit the required report to the Texas Education Agency," Board President John L. Solis said when making the motion. Jaime Villarreal seconded the motion, which passed 6–0 with Veronica Munguia absent. The board directed administration to keep the determination in district records and to file the SB 546 report with TEA as required.
