The board reviewed end-of-year spending and reserve levels as staff closed out purchases from the prior fiscal period. A staff member told the board that late purchasing had left the district with about $152,000 on hand from what had been a roughly $250,000 spending pot heading into the final cycle, and flagged a $22,000 custodial-supplies order that had been paid but not yet received.
"We had $250,000 budget at the end of the" and "That's what I left in there so I could transfer it knowing full" were the staff member's descriptions of the closing positions. The same staff member said the district expects to receive more information in August and September about a state-offered health-insurance product that could consolidate claims administration and include dental, vision and life coverage: "it's going to be a real really nice product that will have everything, dental, vision, life." The board asked staff to prepare final budget figures for the upcoming budget meeting and to monitor how any new benefits product would affect district rates and reserves.
