Rockdale ISD honors student athletes, UIL and FFA achievers
Summary
Rockdale ISD trustees recognized students across Special Olympics, track, soccer, powerlifting, FFA and Academic UIL for district- and regional-level accomplishments and noted a new school record in the junior high 2400-meter run.
Assistant Superintendent Tiffany Whitsel presented a roundup of student achievements across Rockdale ISD and asked the board to join in recognition of multiple teams and individual performers.
Whitsel highlighted Special Olympics medalists and detailed results from elementary through 18+ divisions. "We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments," she said, and listed medalists including Sofia Perez (elementary 1st place, 25 Meter Run and Tennis Ball Throw) and Jaylen Delz (18+ 1st place, 50 Meter Run).
The report also noted a new junior high school record: Paulina Waak (7th grade) set a school record in the 2400 Meter with a time of 9:47.09, and Rockdale 8th graders swept the girls shot put podium (Trinity Everage 35'7", Jaelah Green 35'0", Ki’Ara Ann Jones 33'9").
Whitsel reviewed season highlights for boys and girls soccer, naming district honorees such as Wilmer Sorto (District MVP) and Hannah McKie (1st Team All-District; Honorable Mention All-State). She also listed powerlifting regional qualifiers and FFA members who placed at the Milam County Junior Livestock Show.
The board heard that Rockdale High's Number Sense team finished 1st at the UIL meet and advanced to regionals, with multiple students advancing individually in academic events. The recognitions were presented as part of the meeting's reports and required no formal board action.
