At public comment, Charlie Pierce praised a recent Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) presentation and relayed a plan commission concern that emerging uses — data centers, battery storage facilities and commercial solar — are not covered by the town’s current UDO. Pierce said the presenter suggested immediately placing a moratorium on those uses until the UDO is updated.
"He... suggested that a moratorium be placed on those right away before somebody applies," Pierce said during public comment and urged the council to consider moving public comment to the end of the agenda so residents can respond after hearing new business. Later in the meeting staff noted Councilman Group had requested the moratorium item and counsel has been contacted; staff said a post‑date review and a moratorium proposal should be brought forward in the near term.
Council staff indicated the town will have counsel review the issue and expects to present a moratorium proposal to the council at a future meeting; no ordinance or formal moratorium was adopted at this meeting.
