Riviera ISD trustees voted Nov. 19 to pay $28,064.62 to the Texas Education Agency to satisfy a 2023–2024 IDEA‑B Maintenance of Effort compliance review.
Ms. Moreno explained the district had initially been informed of an $86,311.94 liability two years earlier; after reviewing documentation and correcting coding errors, she reduced the amount owed to $28,064.62. "One of the issues was that money was being spent, but it was not coded correctly to reflect Special Education expenditures," Moreno said. She reported the district spent 66% of its Special Education allotment last year and is budgeted to remain in compliance this year, projecting 75% spending.
Trustees approved the required payment (motion by Rodney Malin, second Becky Gutierrez). Ms. Moreno said the funds will pay for service providers and that the district will continue to monitor six‑week finance summaries from TEA to ensure compliance.
