The Riviera ISD Board of Trustees approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Kleberg County on Nov. 19 to use the JK Northway Center in Kingsville as an evacuation and reunification site in significant emergencies.
Mrs. Flores explained the site — already approved and signed by the county judge — would be used only in large‑scale incidents such as a major fire, hurricane threat, a hazardous materials train derailment or any event requiring full district evacuation. If conditions allow, parents may pick up students before buses depart; in immediate danger scenarios, students will be transported to the designated site to ensure safety.
District staff said the JK Northway Center includes multiple rooms and climate‑controlled space to separate and supervise students during reunification. The district also retains the Erma Center as an additional partner site and can borrow buses under a mutual‑aid agreement with neighboring districts if needed. The Board approved the MOU (motion by Teresa May).
