Riviera ISD adopts certification under new state law and parent-rights resolution

The Riviera ISD Board adopted a Certification of Compliance with Certain Laws required by Texas Education Code §39.008 and separately adopted a resolution to implement compliance with Senate Bill 12 on parental rights at the Sept. 24 meeting. Teresa May moved to approve the certification; Becky Gutierrez seconded. The board voted 5–0 (one absent) to adopt both items.
According to the board discussion, the adopted certification prohibits district personnel and contractors from engaging in certain diversity, equity and inclusion duties as prescribed by the new state law and clarifies how staff should interact with students consistent with state requirements. Trustees directed that notices and related disciplinary policies be issued to employees and contractors, and the certification will be submitted to the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
