Markham outlines water, sewer, park, lighting and sidewalk projects for 2026

City Administrator Derrick Champion told the council the city received approval to advertise two infrastructure contracts: East Side Water Main and Lead Service Line Replacement — Phase 1, and East Side Combined Sewer Rehabilitation — Phase 1. Both projects will be funded with State of Illinois Revolving Funds and are expected to begin in late summer 2026 along Winchester Ave., Damen Ave., Dixie Highway and adjacent backyards.
“The projects are being funded with State of IL Revolving Funds,” Champion said. He also reported that Cook County’s consulting engineer Arcadis Inc. is finalizing the East Markham Park design with construction anticipated to begin in May, and that the neighborhood lighting project’s conduits and foundations are complete with poles to be installed and the project expected to finish by the end of April. The city has submitted an Invest in Cook grant application to install a Central Park Avenue sidewalk from Markham Elementary School to the fire station and will coordinate with IDOT on bridge repairs for 159th Street over I‑57.
