Council declines to advance Movement Hub LLC license amid planning concerns

Que Payne, speaking for The Movement Hub LLC, described plans to open a performing arts center at 3333 W. 159th Street offering dance, music, poetry, retail and wellness programs for youth and seniors. Payne said she has “over 40 years of experience, locally and internationally” and intends to include a retail component to serve the area.
Mayor Roger Agpawa expressed support for the program’s value but raised concerns about compatibility with the city’s recent Comprehensive Plan and the tax-increment financing strategy for the 159th Street corridor, saying the project’s retail and social-program mix “did not fit” the boulevard vision. Ald. Joseph Bertrand Jr. moved to approve the license but the motion failed for lack of a second. Administrator Derrick Champion said, “We need to have some further discussion.”
