Markham council approves sale of 2016 street sweeper, cites $25,000 discount and added capacity

The council unanimously adopted Ordinance 26-O-2434 to sell the city’s 2016 Elgin Pelican street sweeper (VIN NP30793) to Standard Equipment after waiving the 48-hour reading requirement. The motion, moved by Ald. William Barron and seconded by Ald. Wanda McDowell, passed on a 4-0 roll call.
Mayor Roger Agpawa described the trade as a cost-saving measure that increases the city's street-cleaning capacity: the new acquisition is a used double-broom model offered with a $25,000 discount while the city already owns a brand-new sweeper. "We're trading it for a double-broom model, which is used, but we're receiving a $25,000 discount on it," the mayor said, and he added that improved sweeping helps prevent moisture-related asphalt damage and reduces long-term maintenance costs.
