Rice CISD trustees approve purchases, renew contracts; superintendent reports enrollment of 1,262

The Rice Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees met on April 20, 2026, in Altair and approved multiple routine items including purchases and personnel renewals. President Jason Pausewang called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.; the meeting recessed to an executive session under Texas Government Code Section 551.074 at 6:44 p.m. and returned to open session at 7:19 p.m.
Superintendent Ken Center reported that "Enrollment stands at 1262," and highlighted upcoming events including the One Act Play performing in San Antonio Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., Principals Day on May 1, Teacher Appreciation Week beginning May 4, and prom on May 9. He said the TASB facility survey is expected to be completed by July and noted a request from the Brandon Robertson family to use district basketball courts for a fundraising tournament; details were pending.
On formal business the board approved the consent agenda (minutes, monthly financial reports and budget amendments), certified the Instructional Materials Allotment and TEKS certification for 2026–27, approved the purchase of a new bus and new Chromebooks, and approved new contract recommendations and contract renewals for district personnel. Motions were moved and seconded by trustees; recorded votes on those motions listed six trustees voting yea (Belman, Ishee, Owers, Rodgers, Romo and Schiurring) and no nays. The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
