The Neodesha Board of Commissioners on May 13 adopted Resolution No. 26-10 authorizing the city to pursue a noncompetitive Pathways to a Healthy Kansas implementation grant of up to $50,000 to install a permanent, ADA-accessible unisex restroom with a baby-changing station at Riverwalk Park.
City staff said the project supports community access and park usability and that the city would provide matching dollars plus in-kind labor and materials to cover the total estimated project cost of $61,000. The resolution authorizes the City Administrator to complete minimum requirements, execute agreements, and accept the grant if awarded.
Commissioner Duane Banzet moved to approve Resolution 26-10; Commissioner Truelove seconded the motion and it carried. The presentation introducing the grant work was given by Miranda Carpenter, Erica Johnson and Betty Walters, who were welcomed by the governing body.
The Pathways pledge referenced in the resolution commits the city to a placemaking partnership with Stay Strong Live Long (SSLL) and the Pathways initiative to support tobacco-free, accessible community gathering spaces. The resolution directs the City Administrator to work with SSLL and Pathways representatives to fulfill pledge requirements and apply for the implementation grant.
The commission did not set a construction schedule at the meeting; staff will return with contract documents and any required matches or in-kind cost details if the grant is awarded.
