Ropes ISD trustees adopt resolution to provide for recorded vote on campus prayer policy

Ropes Independent School District trustees voted Feb. 9 to adopt a resolution that ensures each board member’s stance would be recorded if the district pursues a policy requiring a period of prayer and the reading of the Bible or another religious text on every campus. The resolution implements the procedural record-vote requirement described in Senate Bill 11 and Texas Education Code §25.0823.
The resolution was moved by Trustee Tysen Mortensen and seconded by Trustee Chad Brooks and carried with six yes votes; Trustee Donnie Halpain was absent. The board did not adopt the substantive campus prayer policy itself during the meeting — the action authorized only a record vote process should the board later consider such a policy. The motion and vote were entered in the meeting minutes.
