Deputy City Clerk Demetra Brown opened a public hearing on Local Law H of 2026 and read its title and scope to the meeting. Brown said the measure would amend ‘‘chapters 42, departments and commissions, 48 equal opportunity protections, and 187 fair housing of the code of the city of Albany in relation to adding protections against housing discrimination, and increasing the enforcement of fair housing violations.’’
Brown told viewers the hearing had been properly noticed, with the full text posted on the city website and advertised in the Times Union, and that the local law was currently before the mayor for consideration. The clerk also noted no members of the public signed up to testify during the allotted time; the public hearing was closed after a brief waiting period.
If adopted, Local Law H would alter how the city’s departments and commissions approach equal-opportunity protections and fair-housing enforcement by amending the cited code chapters. The hearing record provided the ordinance language and locations in the city code but did not include a staff presentation, fiscal analysis, or detailed enforcement procedures during the session. The full text of the proposed law is available on the City of Albany website, in the Common Council public hearing section.
