The Royal Independent School District Board of Trustees on Dec. 8 authorized the superintendent or designee to conduct a request‑for‑proposal process to select an after‑school childcare services provider.
Trustee Melissa Woods moved to authorize the RFP and Trustee Cori Vahalik seconded; the motion passed with all trustees recorded as "Yea." In discussion, Trustee Rose Jones asked whether the current contract would be extended. "Dr. Pape responded that the current contract was not automatically extended and that the organization had been notified of the Districts intention to go out for RFQ," the minutes state. Trustees also discussed whether the district could rely on a month‑to‑month arrangement until a new vendor is selected and directed staff to contact the existing provider about interim coverage.
The board did not record a dollar value for the contract in the open minutes. The agenda item was recorded under New Business; the minutes show the board approved authorization to proceed with procurement rather than awarding a contract at the Dec. 8 meeting.
