District police report two doors found propped during TEA audit; district to increase training and consider alarms

Bill Prasifka, chief of the Red Oak ISD Police Department, briefed the board on findings from an October 28 TEA intruder-detection audit at the high school. He said auditors identified two exterior doors that were either propped open or had a mechanical issue; one was likely propped open by a student. "2 doors were left, were were found open," Prasifka told the board while describing the audit findings.
Prasifka outlined immediate corrective steps the district has already taken: at least one live training session has been held and a second is scheduled this coming Friday for all staff assigned at the high school; staff were directed to submit a daily work order for any door repeatedly observed with a problem so the district can show maintenance history; and the district will upload its corrective plan and required documentation to TEA via the Sentinel system by the Dec. 27 deadline. District staff and a small committee identified candidate doors and proposed piloting door alarms at the high school (about 27 doors were noted as potential pilot sites).
