"Events like this help connect residents, aviation, showcase opportunities for youth, and strengthen our community pride," the mayor said.
Tourism staff announced that McAlester has been selected for a nationally distributed travel and lifestyle television show that will film in the city July 14–18. Miss Kearns said the production will highlight downtown businesses, outdoor recreation and local events and that the city budgeted $49,700 for the appearance. "This exposure places McAlester before a national audience and provides an opportunity to generate future visitation," Kearns said. Staff said the payment came from tourism advertising and marketing funds and described the opportunity as a strategic effort to elevate McAlester’s profile.
