Education Foundation reports record fundraising, expands outreach to Spencer County schools

"We've just finished our 7th fiscal year," the presenter said, adding that the foundation recorded a $161,000 fundraising year in 2025–26 and made $61,000 in grants to schools that spring, including a $25,000 grant that bought freshman laptops.
The presenter described steps taken to build sustainability, saying the group has about $10,000 in a money market account, nearly $11,000 in a brokerage account and an endowment of about $22,000. The foundation is also pursuing recurring corporate support: Peoples Bank has committed $10,000 annually for five years, and the presenter said the group is exploring a broader sponsorship model. The presenter also said the UPS Foundation may provide grant opportunities in the county's region and that the foundation plans fall and spring grant windows and a teacher-supply store funded by community donations.
Board members and staff thanked the presenter and asked questions about how funds are allocated and plans for sustaining volunteer leadership. The presenter named Courtney Shire as a new part-time associate hired to help execute foundation initiatives and said community partners such as Country Mart and German American bank have begun fundraising programs that the foundation hopes to direct to technology and classroom needs.
