Land Commission reviews draft comprehensive plan and forwards recommendation to council

Deputy director Nina McCullough described the plan as “a guidance document that declares a community's purpose and policies, revision goals,” and said it combines demographic and economic data, land-use maps and implementation strategies across 12 chapters. McCullough said the plan is intended as “a coordination document” and “an educational document” to guide investment and policy decisions, but not an immediate fix for longstanding problems.
Commissioners and staff emphasized that the plan is a “living document” that will require follow-up work, such as a capital improvement plan and project-level studies. Chair (Chair) said the next procedural step is to present the plan to city council, and staff indicated a target council adoption date of August 10. Following discussion and public comment, a motion to recommend the draft plan to council passed on a roll-call vote.
