Committee begins review of draft transportation chapter, assigns data tasks

Committee Chair Richard asked members to consider the draft transportation chapter first so Shannon, the town's road commissioner, could provide targeted feedback. Members described the document as a first draft with many blanks to be filled and agreed that a single person or small team should take primary responsibility for preparing the chapter for the comprehensive plan.

Shannon confirmed some immediate maintenance and culvert work priorities and noted that an external flood-vulnerability assessment recently released could supply data for culvert inventories. "What I'd like to do with everybody's permission is to move the draft transportation chapter first because that way we can get input from Shannon as the road commissioner and then let her go instead of tying her up for the whole evening," Richard said, explaining the procedural change to the agenda. Committee members assigned Sam and Theo to populate Table 7 (approved roads budget by fiscal year) from annual reports and discussed adding columns for operating versus capital reserves and separate winter-maintenance items. Members also agreed to link traffic-count sources to mapped crash data so the chapter can show normalized crash rates.
