Sanilac County commissioners elect John Black chair, Roger Ballard vice chair for 2025

The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners elected John Black as chairman and Roger Ballard as vice chairman during its organizational meeting.
Commissioners first voted to use the voice method for the elections under bylaw 4.11. Gary Heberling nominated John Black for chair; with no other nominations the board moved that a unanimous ballot be cast for Black. A roll call produced affirmative responses and the presiding official announced Black as chair. Black thanked colleagues: "I appreciate everyone's support." Roger Ballard was later nominated for vice chair and elected by voice vote with no opposition.
The vote sequence followed the procedures set out in the board bylaws. Commissioners present at roll call were District 1 John Black, District 2 Roger Ballard, District 3 Gary Heberling, District 4 Bill Sarkella, District 5 Christine Lee and District 7 John Moody; District 6 Evans Ehart was absent. Chair Black read a roster of committee assignments and said the slate largely mirrors last year with a few changes.
The new leadership will preside over committee appointments, contract negotiations with unions and several pending grant-driven projects discussed at the meeting. The board adjourned after completing these organizational actions.
