The Child Nutrition representative outlined what qualifies as a complete meal at CCISD and why that matters for meal pricing. "To get the meal price, whether that's free, reduced, or paid, your student has to choose a complete meal," the representative said.
At breakfast, a complete meal requires at least one fruit plus two other items; the main dish counts as two items and students may select up to five items. Examples include a main dish, a fruit and milk, or two fruits and milk. For lunch, a complete meal requires at least one fruit or vegetable plus two other items from different food groups (the main dish counts as two; up to seven items allowed). The representative emphasized that complete meals do not always require a main dish or milk if other required items are chosen.
