Seguin ISD board approves professional development waiver for 2026–2027 school year

The Seguin ISD Board voted on March 24 to approve an expedited general staff development waiver for the 2026–2027 school year that permits the district to schedule staff training in lieu of a portion of student instructional minutes.
Trustee Linda Duncan moved approval and Trustee Joshua Bright seconded. The minutes state the waiver allows districts to train staff on educational strategies "instead of a maximum of 2,100 minutes of student instruction," noting the district calendar contains 170 student days that exceed the 75,600 required minutes by at least 900 minutes. The staff development dates listed in the minutes are September 28, 2026; January 4 and 5, 2027; and February 12, 2027.
The motion passed unanimously. The minutes do not provide further detail on which specific staff training programs will be delivered on those dates, only that the waiver grants scheduling flexibility for professional development.
