The Santo ISD Board approved revisions to multiple local policies to align district rules with laws passed by the 89th Texas Legislature.
Administration reviewed three required updates: EFB (LOCAL), which would require a list of library materials be prepared and submitted to the Board prior to ordering or allow the Board to appoint a SLAC committee to review selections; FD (LOCAL) and FM (LOCAL), which implement the district’s decision to opt‑out of homeschool student participation in extracurricular activities; and FNCE (LOCAL), the local policy adjustment responding to the new state law that bans cell phone use during the school day. The minutes summarize the policy descriptions and note the Board’s action.
“A motion was made by Donny Herring and seconded by Amy Bryan to approve Local Policies EFB, FD, FM, and FNCE to the local policy manual following changes from the 89th Legislative session,” the record states. The motion carried 7‑0.
The policy updates place explicit procedural steps before library material orders and document the district’s stance on homeschool participation in extracurriculars and student cell‑phone use during the school day. The Board did not record additional amendments or dissent in the public minutes.
