The Town of Wayne Select Board authorized the town manager to move forward on installing two speed humps on Old Winthrop Road, seeking recommendations from the infrastructure committee and allowing the road commissioner to take appropriate actions after consultation.
Shannon told the board the town was retroactively awarded two safety grants from the Maine Municipal Association (one for $1,399.70 and another for $1,552.70) and that she had requested two speed humps priced at $776.32 each in the original application. Committee members discussed ideal placement (near the library crosswalk and church entrances), concerns about drivers going around short humps, the need for signage, and the maintenance burden of removing or protecting humps during winter plowing. One board member pressed for a quality specification and noted the infrastructure committee will not meet until Sept. 21; Shannon said she will reach out to committee members and report back.
A motion instructing the town manager to proceed with the installation, consult the infrastructure committee and defer to the road commissioner’s judgment after consultation passed on a 5–0 vote. Shannon said at least one of the retroactive grant purchases would need to be completed by October and she will confirm exact deadlines and acceptable products with MMA.
