Sonora ISD honors long-serving staff and a student recognized as 'Kindest Kid'

At the Sept. 15, 2025 regular meeting, Elementary Principal Heather Cearley introduced staff-of-the-month honorees Loretta Garmon, a paraprofessional with 23 years in the district, and Lizbeth De Luna, a first-grade math teacher with 11 years of service. "I was very grateful to have both of them on her campus," Cearley said when presenting the recognitions.
The board also recognized 5th grader Wayden Dillard after he was nominated as Kindest Kid in America and acknowledged that Jessie Clark-Funk had written a book about him. The recognitions were presented during the meeting's recognition segment and drew no formal board discussion beyond the presentations.
