Snyder ISD Board Rejects SB11 Prayer Policy in 6–1 Vote

The motion to adopt the resolution was made by trustee Ralph Ramon and seconded by Michael Rodriquez; the board recorded one yea vote from Ralph Ramon and six nays from Chad Arnwine, Michael Rodriquez, Brad Hinton, Jay Lewis, Doug Neff and Jennifer Taylor.
The draft resolution presented to the board included the provision: "The Snyder Independent School District shall adopt a policy requiring every campus of Snyder Independent School District to provide a period of prayer and reading of the Bible or other religious text as provided by Section 25.0823, Education Code." Board discussion noted that existing federal and state law already protects individual voluntary religious expression; adoption would have established additional procedural and parental-consent requirements for implementation. The motion failed, so the board did not adopt the SB11-based policy at this meeting.
