The board opened its May 12 meeting by recognizing the May Students of the Month, sponsored by the Slaton Bakery. Superintendent Shelli Conkin named Millie Morrow (Stephen F. Austin, kindergarten), London Vasquez (Cathelene Thomas, 2nd grade), Alyssa Torres (SJH, 6th grade) and Tabor Vergara (SHS senior). Students received ceremonial “bakery dough” provided by the Slaton Bakery; principals presented brief reports.
Athletic Director Coach Conkin reported that the district’s athletes finished the season strongly and noted the program is “headed in the right direction.” He also noted one athlete was competing at the state track meet that week and introduced Boston Hudson as the new head Tigers basketball coach.
