Slaton ISD administration briefed trustees on a pilot four‑day instructional week and presented pros and cons for adopting a 4‑day instructional calendar in 2026–2027.
Superintendent Shelli Conkin said the pilot phase will conclude at the end of the 2025–2026 school year and invited direction from the board as she begins planning the 2026–2027 calendar. Assistant Superintendent Chris Carpenter presented the pros and cons to trustees; Kara Newcomb asked whether committees had been consulted and whether negative feedback had surfaced. The board did not vote on the item March 23 and asked administration to gather committee input and community feedback before returning the item for later consideration.
