Slaton ISD students honored; local arts group donates $1,000 to special education and art

Slaton Independent School District trustees opened their Dec. 11 meeting by recognizing Students of the Month from each campus and accepting a $1,000 donation tied to a student art award. Andrea Blanco, founder of Beautiful Mind on Fire, presented Kaydee McGwier as the November winning artist and announced the donation earmarked for Special Education and the Slaton High School art department.
“We are here for our students to be recognized,” Board President Carlos Bentancourt said, thanking community partners for supporting student achievement. Principals also presented brief reports about the selected students; recipients received a ceremonial “bakery dough” gift from the Slaton Bakery as part of the recognition program. The board had no public comments during the meeting.
