FinCom raises concerns about Select Board’s chosen Town Hall option and lack of public input

Members of the Tisbury Finance & Advisory Committee reviewed the Town Hall Building Committee’s update and expressed concern that the Tisbury Select Board selected "Option #1" as the site and design to be engineered and costed without soliciting public comment at the Select Board meeting. FinCom members said the choice had implications for access and town-center cohesion because Option #1 could place Town Hall on a road isolated from the center.
FinCom representatives asked that estimates include sidewalks, bike-path access and parking and that the design pursue solar and net‑zero measures and flexible floor plans to accommodate possible regionalization. Russ Hartenstine, the FinCom representative to the Building Committee, explained that an option must be chosen before engineering estimates can be produced and that the two options’ costs were roughly close (estimated within 5–10%), with Option #1 likely cheaper due to unknown cliff retaining-wall costs at Option #2. Members requested inclusion of access and pedestrian costs in the engineering scope before final budgeting.
