A home-school family asked the Seminole Independent School District Board at its Aug. 11 meeting to allow home-schooled students residing in the district’s attendance zone to participate in Seminole ISD University Interscholastic League (UIL) activities. "A home school family made a presentation requesting that the district allow home-schooled students within the attendance zone to participate in Seminole ISD UIL activities," the minutes state.
After brief discussion trustees voted to decline private school and home-school student participation in Seminole ISD UIL activities. Lance Wright moved to decline participation; Herman Peters seconded. The minutes record the motion as "Motion carried 6-0." Board members said they were open to revisiting the subject after the current school year to examine how other districts manage such participation.
