The City Council voted to waive rules and grant the appointment of Heather Haggerty to the New Bedford Port Authority and she was sworn in during the Sept. 25 meeting. The committee had recommended approval; council votes to waive rule 38 and grant the appointment were recorded and the chair administered the oath at the podium.
At the podium Ms. Haggerty repeated the oath: "I, Heather Haggerty. Do solemnly swear... that I will faithfully and impartially perform my duties as a member of the New Bedford Port Authority." The council noted the appointment followed a committee recommendation and recorded the vote as passing 11–0.
