Council presses Eversource to coordinate Orchard Street conduit work near Duval School; police detail requested

At a public hearing the council heard from Jessica Elder of Eversource about a work order to install approximately 40 feet of conduit on Orchard Street (work order 16445767), near the corner by Family Dollar and Duval School. Elder said the work will run under the road to an existing handhold and could take up to two days; she said both the pole and handholes are already installed and that the area will be restored.
Councilors pressed the company to require a police detail because of school traffic and to avoid closing the road during active school sessions. One councilor asked whether the work could be delayed until a school vacation week if it required multi-day closures; another warned that closing the road could cut access to southbound businesses and suggested limiting closures so businesses retain alternate access.
