Comal County proclaims April Autism Acceptance Month; families invite officials to April 5 walk

Comal County commissioners voted to recognize April 2025 as Autism Acceptance Month and April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day. The proclamation encourages awareness, acceptance and supports for people with autism and includes a plan to light the courthouse tower blue April 1—7.
Sharon Carlson, a parent whose child was named in the remarks, thanked commissioners and invited them to the 5th annual Walk for Autism. "The lighting of the tower means so much to us," Carlson said, adding that the walk will take place at Canyon High School beginning at 9:00 a.m. on April 5.
Representatives from COMAL ISD and New Braunfels ISD also spoke in support; Krista Moffitt (assistant superintendent) and Michelle Martel (executive director of special programs and services) emphasized district cooperation and community supports. Commissioners approved the proclamation unanimously.
