The Sonora ISD Board of Trustees adopted the district’s 2025–26 budget and set the 2025 tax rate at $1.0025 during a special meeting Aug. 25, 2025.
Superintendent Michael Kissire reviewed proposed budgets for the general operating, food services and debt service funds during a public hearing opened by Board President Shanna Castro at 5:48 PM. After the hearing closed, Cynthia Perez moved to approve the 2025–26 budget as presented; Mason Martinez seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Trustees also approved a resolution setting the 2025 tax rate at $1.0025, comprised of $0.6922 for maintenance and operations and $0.3103 for debt service. Mason Martinez made the motion to adopt the resolution; Brenda Mungia seconded and the vote was unanimous.
The board recorded that there were no public comments during the hearing. Board members expressed appreciation to school finance staff for preparing the budget; Superintendent Kissire singled out Greta Ramsdell for her work on the document. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15.
What’s next: The adopted budget and adopted tax rate will be posted with district records. Any administrative steps required to implement the budget (purchase orders, staffing changes) were not detailed in open session.
