At its July 28 meeting the Sonora ISD Board unanimously approved participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which will provide free breakfast and lunch to all students across the district for the 2025–26 school year.
Superintendent Michael Kissire explained the CEP participation and trustees voted 7–0 to adopt the program after a motion by Mason Martinez and a second from Colby Bates. School officials indicated the provision applies to both elementary and secondary schools.
The decision shifts meal pricing for the entire student body to a districtwide free-meals model under federal CEP rules; district staff will complete administrative steps to implement the program for the upcoming school year.
