Sonora ISD approves interlocal agreement to host two Irion County students

The Sonora ISD Board unanimously approved an interlocal cooperation agreement with Irion County ISD so that two students from Irion County may attend Sonora’s life skills class during the 2025–26 school year.
Superintendent Michael Kissire told the board that Irion County will transport the two students because the sending district does not offer a life skills program. Kissire said lawyers for both districts had worked on the agreement and that both districts agreed on the conditions before the board voted. Trustee Colby Bates moved to approve the agreement; Cynthia Perez seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The agreement lets Sonora ISD provide a program not available in the neighboring district and clarifies transportation and program responsibilities between the two districts.
