On Aug. 28, 2025, the Silsbee ISD Board of Trustees adopted a resolution addressing provisions of Senate Bill 12 (89th Legislature), which the resolution notes becomes effective Sept. 1, 2025. The motion to adopt was made by Dana Hancock and seconded by Bo Hoffman; it passed unanimously.
The resolution directs district staff and contractors to comply with multiple requirements and directives, including: not assigning diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) duties to employees or contractors; disciplining employees who intentionally assign DEI duties; prohibiting district employees from assisting students with social transitioning; posting parental‑access information and instructional plans on the district website; prioritizing public comments at the beginning of board meetings and holding meetings outside of typical work hours; and prohibiting student clubs based on sexual orientation or gender identity without written parental consent.
The resolution enumerates 25 specific directives and instructs the superintendent to distribute the resolution to employees and contractors both electronically and physically.
