San Elizario ISD staff presented an update on the district’s HB3 Goal 2 target for overall academic growth in reading/language arts (RLA) STAAR assessments. Mr. Edgar Ponce told trustees the interim assessments used to monitor progress will be STAAR-aligned and adaptive; Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Meza-Chavez said the district has added systems and parent communications to support upcoming testing.
Trustee Alexis Tellez asked whether Alarcon and Borrego campuses were taking the same interim assessments. "I would like to know if Alarcon and Borrego are taking the same exam or if each campus created their own assessment," Tellez said. Ms. Blanca Cruz explained Borrego uses the HMH RLA curriculum and that the interim assessment is adaptive, meaning question difficulty adjusts to student performance; Cruz said targeted improvement plans for Loya, Sambrano and the high school will be presented to the board.
