Scobey K-12 Schools board approves invitations to bid for elementary roof repairs

The Scobey K-12 Schools board voted by voice to approve issuing invitations to bid for repairs and updates to the elementary-school roof after a contractor quote exceeded the district's approximate $80,000 procurement threshold.

Dirk, who presided over the special meeting, said the board called the session because “Why we're doing this is just having a special meeting because our quote from Theo Brothers came in, about the $80,000 threshold.” District staff said the intent is to run a two-week bid period, receive sealed proposals and open bids at the next board meeting.

Board discussion included competing repair approaches. Dirk also described a temporary coating for the elementary roof priced in discussion at about $3,000 with a five-year warranty as a stopgap measure while the district finalizes longer-term repairs.

A district staff member told the board that bids would be due on the Friday before the regular board meeting and opened at that meeting; the staff member said contractors would need to begin work at or immediately after the meeting and that the work should be completed before students return (the staff referenced an August 10–12 window as the target). The board voted by voice; the transcript records an "Aye" response but does not include a roll-call tally.
