Superintendent Bryan McKenna updated the board on facility and opening-week preparations at the Aug. 4 meeting. He said carpet and lockers are being installed at Elk Rapids High School and that Cherryland Middle School still requires additional work before school begins; Lakeland Elementary and Mill Creek Academy are largely ready.
McKenna said there is no new update from the state on the 2025–26 budget and that an amended budget will be brought to the board in the fall once grant direction is clarified. He also outlined operational items for the opening week: a parent update to families, new-family tours today from 9 a.m. to noon, leadership professional development in the coming weeks (with Bill Boyle leading restorative-practices training), and district open houses on Aug. 28. The superintendent offered the district’s condolences to Rob Bachi and family on the passing of Rick Young.
