Supervisor Jeff Gorell briefed the council on several county efforts during the April 30 meeting. He said the County, in partnership with Sheriff Fryhoff, advanced a measure to "evaluate policies and best practices from other jurisdictions" to improve bike and e-bike safety for riders — a concern he noted is especially important for youth and school commutes.
Gorell reported that homelessness has decreased by 28% over the past three years and cited recent Board action on permitting reform intended to reduce administrative barriers and speed project approvals. He framed these items as part of a broader effort to keep communities safe and support economic opportunity.
The MAC will consider e-bike community safety again on an upcoming agenda (May 28). The update included reference to interagency collaboration and educational and enforcement efforts that are already underway.
