High school to start students in Studio Art 1; TR Excellence Expo set for April 3

Curriculum staff described a two-year effort to realign the high-school art sequence and expand students' opportunities to reach upper-level studio and AP art coursework.
"Instead of offering art appreciation, we're going to start all students with our Studio Art 1 course," Speaker 6 said, explaining the move is intended to let students who discover a passion for art reach Studio Art 2 and then Studio Art 3 and 4 with honors or college-prep options. Speaker 6 said arts 3 and 4 will be mixed honors/CP classes and that the district will add layers of rigor such as presentations and writing within honors courses.
Speaker 6 also invited the board and public to the TR Excellence Expo on April 3 at the arena, noting the event showcases student presentations, performances and community partnerships.
