The Toms River Regional Schools Board of Education swore in three new members and completed leadership elections at its reorganization meeting. Mr. Burns administered the oath of office for Lisa Contessa, Maria Matarazzo and Joseph Joubert before the board moved to fill officer posts.
Nominations for president produced two candidates; a roll-call vote in the order of nomination resulted in an 8–1 tally for Ashley Lam. "Motion carries," the presiding official said after the count and the board moved to appoint Lam formally. Later, a separate roll-call elected James Capone to the vice presidency by a 5–4 vote.
The board recorded the initial procedural action of affixing the election results to the minutes before the oaths were administered. No public opposition to the leadership votes was recorded during the meeting. The reorganization portion concluded with a five-minute recess before committee meetings began.
